In the rush and noise of life, as you have intervals, step home within yourselves and be still. Wait upon God, and feel His good presence; this will carry you evenly through your day’s business. ~William Penn.
Our fleshly bodies have an insatiable desire for busyness and frenzied bustle that keeps us preoccupied with the everyday clutter and muddle of life. The spirit of man, however, cries out for the peace and quiet without the clutter and clanging of the distracting surrounding noise. It’s a battle that began in the Garden and continues now in our hearts, but it doesn’t come without effort. God desires to speak to us, but he can best be heard in the still quietness when we pull away from the craziness of the world. Whether it’s a prayer closet or the early morning calmness in your comfortable chair, create a calm that precedes the mundane monotony of the day ahead. It’s not a time for talking, it’s a time for listening. It’s not a time for doing, it’s a time for stillness. It’s then that He shows up, eager to provide you with the strength and energy to overcome the busyness and frenzied bustle.
Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him. Psalm 37:7 (NIV).
